1970 RIVERSIDE CAN AM

Not the most exciting race of the year. The sucker Chaparral dominates qualifying but fails before the first lap is finished. Denny Hulme takes the lead immediately, Jackie Oliver’s Titanium car chases for a solid second. Pedro Rodriguez takes 3rd in the BRM 2 laps behind Oliver and Hulme and just ahead of Chris Amon in the unusual looking March which ran out of gas with just a few laps to go, letting Pedro past. The big story, of course, is another failure of the somewhat legal Chaparral and its unbelievable speed and fragility. Oliver’s Ti22, an unusual car itself, was a budget racer with a great story. http://www.grandprixhistory.org/ti22.htm We got these black and white photos from Mr. Jteee and stole a few colored images from the internet.
