1962 & 1964 NASSAU SPEED WEEKS

From the archives of Bob Holbert come these images from the Bahamas. 1962: Innes Ireland starred winning the Nassau Trophy in a Lotus XIX and finished 3rd in a GTO Ferrari in the Tourist Trophy. Roger Penske won in another GTO brought by John Mecom. The brand new Cobras showed speed but broke leaving the scene to the Ferrari’s. Holbert was driving a 718 WR-S Spyder with an 8 cylinder engine and finished 2nd in both feature races. 1964 was a great year for Roger Penske. He won the TT in a Mecom Grand Sport Corvette, won the Governor’s trophy in his #6 Chaparral and then, after he broke in the Nassau Trophy, took over from Hap Sharp and won in the #66 Chaparral. Our Sherm Decker was there with the rat Cooper but it failed to finish.
