1965 MARLBORO SPEEDWAY

The BARC was out in force at the tight Marlboro circuit. In the main modified race Alan Friedland in his Elva Mk VII Ford won EM and was 3rd overall, Sherm Decker had the Cooper-Ford and was challenging the lead when he spun, but managed to hold on to 2nd in CM. Don Yenko won BP, Donna Mae Mims was 7th in her Pink TR-3. Oscar Koveleski brought the Car 54 home, Harry Reynolds had his GM Lotus 11 and Steve Elfenbein, Bud Hofer, Judy Beattie, Spankey Smith, Dave Zych and Dave Nicholas were there for moral support

 Brad Parker, a local DC resident in a spanking new Elva MkVIII BMW raced in E Modified.  The car blew a head gasket and Parker retired.

 Ron Grable’s EP Porsche kept the lead from a hard charging Bruce Jennings to win and collect valuable points.  Burt Everett and George Frey were close to Grable but both dropped out early.

 Art Riley’s Volvo P-1800 did not have a good day.  We don’t remember what caused it, maybe no rain tires, but Art was uncharacteristically far back in FP.

 Dave Zych and Judy Beattie represented the BARC.  Zych created and wrote the BARC gazette for many years before taking over The Straighpipe newsletter for the DC region.  Judy competed in both a Lotus Super 7 and later a Lotus 23.
