1962 CUMBERLAND SCCA NATIONAL

A great year for the BARCBOYS. We were back at Cumberland with Bob Bucher in a newer Porsche, Bob Poupard’s MGA, Rip Ripley’s Porsche. Roger Penske was on a roll with his finned Cooper and would make it 3 National wins in a row. Bucher had a race long battle with Herb Swan but ended up 2nd in class. We saw young guns Peter Revson and Tim Mayer in Formula Juniors. While certainly not a great racing layout, Cumberland had been around for years and was a Must Go track.

As was usual throughout the late 50’s and early 60’s Holbert would win E Modified and place well overall. This day he was 3rd behind the two Coopers or Penske and Sharp.

Holbert passes the pits. Cumberland was odd in the finish line was not where the start was. The finish was far in the distance where you can see the spectators on the hill.
