BARCBOYS UPDATES

Joe Tierno found a box full of long lost slides and negatives in his storage locker. I am presenting a selection of those images that travels from 1954 to 1961. Some races as important as Sebring, some small regional SCCA events like the Watkins Glen Classic. Drivers from Carrol Shelby to others you never knew, but the page is mostly about the cars and the times. What I think important is each represents a period in racing that was much simpler and is long gone. Keep in mind many of these shots were taken by a young teen with a snapshot camera. Others came from Spankey Smith who left many of his images to Joe when he passed. I hope you enjoy these glimpses of moments in time from back in the day.

A closer view of the shop Cunningham rented to work on his cars. The two Cunningham C4’s were out of date but still managed to finish 7th & 8th. Spear’s Maserati was 2nd. Is that Briggs himself wearing the white hat?

We’re not sure what is happening here. Dozens of race cars on the starting grid, but of all different classes. More cars are coming into the course on Wedgewood Road. Could it have been a track familiarization run on Thursday or Friday?
